SL v ENG 2021: “Utter Garbage” Michael Vaughan terms Sri Lanka’s performance “worst ad for Test cricket”

Former England captain Michael Vaughan was disgusted with hosts Sri Lanka’s performance on the first day of the first Test against England at Galle. Sri Lankan captain Dinesh Chandimal won the toss and chose to bat.

However, Stuart Broad (3/20) and Dom Bess (5/30) combined to rout the Islanders for 135 runs in 46.1 overs. Angelo Mathews made 27, Dinesh Chandimal made 28, while Kusal Perera and Dasun Shanaka also reached the 20s. However, the biggest disappointment was talented Kusal Mendis who collected his fourth duck in as many Test innings.

Lasith Embuldeniya removed both England openers in Zak Crawley and Dom Sibley, but Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root holding the fort. England ended day one on 127/2 with Root on 66* and Bairstow on 47*.
