Aaron Finch hasn’t done too well for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the ongoing IPL 2020. He has scored 172 runs in 7 matches opening the innings and has scored just one half-century- 52 against MI.
It was obvious that he was frustrated with his inability to get going from the start, while young Devdutt Padikkal was hammering the bowling around on the other hand. His pent-up irritation came to the fore in RCB’s recent match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
RCB won the match thanks to the exploits of AB de Villiers who made 73* and added 100* runs with Kohli in 46 balls. His knock took RCB to 194/2 in 20 overs. Finch managed 47 runs in 37 balls with 4 fours and 1 six.
However, he looked uncomfortable against the pace of KKR’s Andre Russell and was even hit on the grill of the helmet once by Russell’s bouncer. Finch could not keep his emotions in check and uttered, well, something that is not suitable for broadcast on television.
IPL 2020: Chahal should have been Man of the Match for his incredible bowling v KKR, says Stokes
The incident occurred in the sixth over of the RCB innings, when Finch failed to make contact with delivery by Russell. At this moment, Finch blurted out “Oh, you bas***d”. His comment was picked up by the microphone placed at the stumps and was broadcast on live television.
The commentators could not help but laugh out loud. The comment, however, did not appear to be directed at Russell or anyone else. It was more like venting out his frustration over missing the ball. Incidentally, he has beaten again in the following delivery, this time the ball hitting the batsman’s helmet.
