“I’m nowhere near Virat Kohli,” David Malan speaks on his awe-inspiring T20I stats

England batsman Dawid Malan has been sensational with the bat the stats describe it well. In the last two three-match T20I series of England, against Pakistan and Australia, Malan scored 23, 54*, 7, 66, 42, and 21.

Coming in at number 3, the English batsman averages 48 in the T20Is after 16 matches. His numbers are impressive, but despite good stats, he declined to be compared with someone like Virat Kohli.

Malan admitted although the numbers suggest he belongs to the same league, it’s too early to compare and he is nowhere near the India cricket team captain.

“The type of player I am, I quite like to know where I stand in the team set up, which is why I said when you get played in the series you know exactly what you are going to do. I don’t think I am anywhere near Virat Kohli and those guys even though the numbers suggest. Maybe if I played 50 games then I can be compared to some extent,” Malan was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

Malan is not the first choice inclusion in the playing XI and he got opportunities in the absence of regular players like Jason Roy and Ben Stokes. But the 33-year-old isn’t thinking about it and he is focused on adding runs whenever there’s a chance.

“It’s been tough. We all know how good the players are that hold those positions. Their records over the last four or five years have been fantastic. For anyone to break in, you have to be extremely consistent and win games of cricket for England,” he said.

“I’m obviously aware that guys like Jason and Stokesy will come back at some point, and it’s my job to score as many runs as I can in the opportunities I have to put pressure on them and Morgs (Morgan) and the selectors when it comes down to it.”
